HOW TO MAKE MONEY YOUR FRIEND (PT. 2)

In the concluding part of this discussion we started last week, I want to state that financial tension is about the most effective stress point in the home. We can’t do without money.

Do you know that 16 out of 38 of Christ’s parables deal with money? Are you aware that more is said in the New Testament about money more than heaven and hell combined, and that five times more is said about money than prayer? Wouldn’t it interest you to also know that while there are 500 plus verses on both prayer and faith, there are over 2,000 verses dealing with money and possessions? If God wasn’t interested in Christians being sufficiently informed about money, he wouldn’t devote such space to talk about it in his Word.

Truth is lack of money adversely affects the mind. Studies show that poverty reduces our cognitive ability. For instance, Sendhil Mullainathan, Eldar Shafir measured farmers’ mental function a month before their harvests, a time they were unhappy, and then again a month after, during which they were bubbling with joy. You want to hear the findings? The same farmers performed worse before the harvest, when they had little money, and better after the harvest, when they had much more money.

In a separate part of the study, the researchers had poor and fairly wealthy participants think about money, and then determined the participants’ cognitive performance. In this case, they discovered that when poor participants thought about money, they performed worse. Well-off participants weren’t affected at all.

However you look at it, every one of us needs more buck. It gets life rolling. It starts with nurturing a close relationship with money to know more about it, how it works, and how we can attract more of it continuously.

More Ways You Can Make Money Your Friend

(4) Don’t think that it is bad to be rich or talk ill of it. The rich don’t think that being rich makes one a devil. It is not wealth that is the root of evil; it is the love of money that is the foundation of all bad things. In Part I of this post, we saw how we can be friends with money without loving it. So see money as good, and getting it as worthwhile.

(5) Invest time to think about what value to create and add to the world that will bring about flow of more money into your life. If you want to have access to much more money, you should create time daily, even if it means 15 to 30 minutes, to think of how you can create more value to benefit humanity. In the just-published eBook, The Mind: Your Amazing Power To Take Big Places, I have devoted a chapter to examine the attracting forces of our thoughts.

(6) Don’t waste money. Control your expenses. No true friend likes wastages of any kind, be it time, energy, or whatever. Money always runs away from wasters. Those who can’t control it always lose it to those who can.

Use budget to cut down on unnecessary and avoidable expenditures. The rich don’t spend on frivolities. Prioritize and streamline your expenses.

(7) Save money for future investment. One basic way to make money your friend and attract a lot of wealth is to commit to regularly saving a portion of your earnings for future investment. God multiplies the seeds we sow, the money we invest (2 Corinthians 9:10). Wealth answers to sowing and investment, not to prayers.

(8) Don’t envy, hate, or abuse others who are rich. The rich are those who have successfully made money their friends. Rejoice with the wealthy, wish them well in life. Why you don’t have to hate or abuse the wealthy if you want to be rich is so that others won’t hate and abuse you because very shortly, you’re emerging a financial star.

(9) Don’t throw it into the hands of unfriendly, uncaring hands. That is, don’t put your money into ponzi schemes and money scams. Money is a very sensitive thing. If you check those who are rich over a long period of time, they’re not victims of the swings of human emotions, such as the greed urge. It is those who fail to make friends with money that often fall victims of throwing their hard-earned money into the unfriendly hands of money scammers.
